Cumulative Update 1 for Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012

First off, many Thanks to Dilip and his blog for giving us this highlight. He is the first one, that I saw report this, of people I follow.

Now with that Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 Cumulative Update 1 has been released. You will need PartnerSource access to get it. It can be downloaded from the following.: Cumulative Update 1 for Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012

I can't cover the details of what all this fixes, as it's released under: The information in this article is provided to you in accordance with your Confidentiality Agreement

I can however say, that after reviewing the list there is a lot of fixes around upgrades, with some functional area specific fixes. This CU1 is a must, and this brings a good time to point out in Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012, the new Update process.

In the past, you would have to take and, say wanted to install multiple updates. Well you would run the RTM Setup, and then perform any updates. That's not the case anymore! Now you can take updates, and place them within the Update folder of the network shared AX 2012 install location.

Next time you need to setup something, single setup process, and the CU1 will be applied as part of that install.

For already existing instances, or installs you will need to apply. One final note on this, the build before the CU1 being applied is: 6.0.947.00 and the build after the CU1 being applied will be: 6.0.947.61.

That's all for now, but check back soon and often as more to come! Till next time!

Dilip Delivers his review of the Latest AX 2009 Admin Book

Well I hope everyone is off to a good week! I know it's a Monday, but lets put a good positive thought into being a new day, a gift, a day in which God has given us!

I must say that I am feeling much better myself, I was really down and out last week, but should get a lot more in this week.

To help kick this week off, I wanted to highlight Dilip's recently posted review of a new Microsoft Dynamics AX 2009 Administration book.: Dilip's review of Dynamics AX 2009 Administration Book

From the review.:
"This book is an excellent resource for Dynamics AX Administrators to install/configure Dynamics AX 2009 components into a company's environment topology.

The best thing I like about this book is it has covered the complex topics of installation and configuration of AX Components in a simple and lucid manner with screenshots wherever applicable so that any layman who follows the steps with screenshots can do the installation/setup without much of a learning curve. Also, the chapters are arranged in a logical manner." - Dilip

I would like to thank Dilip for taking the time to give a good review, 4/5 for this new book. He makes some good points on his wish list for such a book as well, so make sure to check it out.

I was actually contact by the Author as well, and so plan on reading the book and giving my own review. Also, Dilip points out he loves the pic on the cover, and that's of downtown Singapore! Awesome building design that is as much art, as it is function.

Well that's all for now, here's to a good week and a lot more post! Till Next Time!

Blog spotlight: Dilip's AX & Exchange Web Services

Recently, Dilip, a fellow blogger over at: Dilip's blog on DYNAMICS AX, wrote on the topic of integration Microsoft Dynamics AX with Exchange Web Services.

The article can be read here.: How to Read email and download attachment from AX (AOS) without Installing Outlook Client and using EWS Exchange Web Services

In this post Dilip describes how a company could interact with Email at the AOS level, including attachments, etc. and not have to worry about having any client side context integration via outlook, or through SMTP.

This is a great post, and I would like to thank Dilip for sharing. I really like this integration, as it shows how powerful service based integrations with Microsoft Dynamics AX can be.

This also shows a new way of integrating with email based processes and workflows, that a lot of companies have request to do at times.

Thanks Dilip, and keep posting that good stuff!

That's all for now, hope everyone is staying warm and toasty.. its getting down to 15 here tonight. For some that's no big deal, but I live in the Southeast part of the U.S., and for us... well it's VERY COLD! So can you Notherners please turn off the cold air for us?

Check back soon as more post coming this week, including an article for MSDynamicsWorld.com!

Dilips AIF Resource blog post

I thought I would pass this along. Dilip, from Dilip's blog about Dynamics AX, posted a nice entry covering different AIF handy web resources.

A direct link to that post, can be found here.: Dilip's AIF Links post

This goes right into the technical dive of working with AIF, which I talked about in my last post, covering when and where AIF should be used vs. the .Net BC.: AIF Services and the .Net BC - Where and When?

Thanks Dilip for a nice post there! Keep them coming!

Blog spotlight: DAXDilip - A good Dynamics Resource

I wanted to do a blog spotlight today, and point out a great new Dynamics Resource. This is Dilip, over at DAXDilip.blogspot.com.

Dilip has been posting since October of 2007 on a regular basis, so it's not really that new.

Dilip seems to have a deep knowledge of the Dynamics space, and a lot of that in Dynamics AX focused posted.

His most recent post, that caught my eye, which broke the news about the X++ Web UI Framework in Enterprise Portal is to be Discontinued has some great insights into his take on this move.:

"1. This is a good move as developers with C# and VB.Net can be more productive in designing the web objects for AX. They need not depend on X++ Application Developers

2. Developing and Deploying web-based portals/webparts will be much more easier and rapid and also one can start using the new Web 3.0 framework as well as the power of Silverlight, AJAX etc."

These are great technical points, of why Microsoft is making this move. It's to consolidate on a given single web platform. SharePoint being a big part of that, including the Office System as well.

I recommend adding Dilip's blog to your list of blog to check for information, and helpful post.

Thanks Dilip for adding good content to the Dynamics Community, and please keep it up!

That's all for now, check back as more to come.

See you next time!
