Silverlight 2.0 + Dynamics AX 5.0

With the soon to be release of Silverlight 2.0, and next years release of Dynamics AX 5.0, along with Visual Studio 2008 and DotNet 3.0 / 3.5 (ie: WinFX) the combining of these technologies, will mean that you will be able to develop Rich Interactive Applications, from Visual Studio, via C# Silverlight project, for Dynamics AX use.

If you could, take a step forward, and see the using for Enterprise Portal web parts. Dashboards, Web based sales orders, RIA eCommerce for those companies that need it, feeding into a DAX 5.0 backend, directly and without thirdparty packages.
Also moving to a more 'Web user' license model, which is much cheaper, than a standard fat client for DAX. Mix this with the possibilites that can now exist with the Microsoft Office Client for Dynamics AX, and you have business mashups worthy of
being called your own, useful, manageable, and actually do something other than look pretty on the screen.

To find out more about SilverLight, visit the Microsoft site at: Silverlight site

If you not thinking in these terms, then you should really start to do so. The result of such mashups, means more flexbility, in a controlled way, all for less!

Everyone gets it!

Well Microsoft is doing a new digital market push for the Dynamics brand, making use of roles to better reach a given target role, and how the Dynamics Platform can address the business needs for a given role. Check it out here: Everyone gets it!

Check out the different roles, and learn more about how the Dynamics platform can address your needs, in the 'Everyone gets it' push.

For what this really applies too, after listen to the IT Manager role, they are really pushing the theme of the Dynamics platform, building and using the rest of the Microsoft Product stack, to make ERP much more understandable, user controlled, user friendly, and as the marketing name implies, just get it!

X++ Team blog: Enter Sales Order via Speech Server and a phone

Well the X++ Team blog is something that I find very interesting, and have since they started posting. I went to catch up with the blog the other day, and found this very interesting article: 'Entering a Sales Order over the Phone'

This article details, how the author took the Office Communications 2007 Speech Server SDK, and created a demo integration with Dynamics AX for allowing customers to call into the line, and interact with the Speec Server to actually enter in orders. For sure there is some benefit for customers fo Dynamics AX who would like to make use of this, as it is a pratical solution. What I found most interesting in this article was the author from the X++ team blog, was searching for new ways to integrat with Dynamics AX, beyond the current offerings. :-)

So thanks X++ Team bloggers! Keep it up, and check back soon here as I continue to post!

LINQ, C# 3.0 - Something looks familiar

Well I actually, finely, took a little time and looked at a good article on LINQ and how it will be used in C# 3.0. And in doing so, the concept, how it interacts with the CLR and data, it looks VERY similar to something us X++ folks have been doing for nearly 8 years now... working with a data model, and data model variables for tables, and using SQL Like Statements within X++ to fill and work with those variables, which represent table objects from a database.

I mean you can't blame them, in fact I am SO glad they are finally, really getting to the point to where LINQ will be close to what X++ can offer. Of course it's not as knowledgeable as X++ is, but then a Object Tree would need to exist for the C# application, in order to make use of it... *gears spinning*

I can see how this move, and the sure to be robust LINQ is paving the way for X++ and Dynamics AX to be developed from Visual Studio, and a native .Net application. I would like to see how the Object Tree, labels, and the layering is handled though. Still, for those of us that develop in C# when X++ is not the language this is such a wonderful new technology for working with XML, Object, and Data, that brings C# closer to what X++ offers us!

Sunrise opens new joint venture company in China

Well Sunrise, the wonderful VAR I am a part of, has more exciting news to talk about. Recently we told the world about the new join venture company in China that Sunrise is part owner in called: Huamei Soft (Wa-may Soft).

Here is a little bit from the press release:

"Huamei Soft will focus primarily on offshore software development for the Microsoft Dynamics AX ERP system. Sunrise has strategically invested in China to support their current business growth opportunities and to have better control of off-shore development operations. "I am confident in building a team of talented Microsoft Dynamics AX developers. The Huamei Soft team is well on track to exceeding their development goals and objectives,” states Rui Ma, General Manager of Huamei Soft."

And:
"“Huamei Soft will play a critical role in supporting Sunrise Technologies’ growth objectives in the future,” states John Pence, president of Sunrise Technologies. “Not only has Huamei Soft provided outstanding customer service to our U.S. based operations, but they will be a critical partner as we ramp up our Sunrise China operations later this year.”"

So this really is going to be great news for our current and future clients. This means we will be able to take on more development needs, and pass on a better price to our customers, with out sacrificing on quality!

Microsoft Online / Offline Sync Services

Well here is something I am for sure keeping a watch on. That is the Microsoft Sync, Online / Offline development offerings. This is suppose to cover even for such as ADO.Net. This will for sure be something widely used and play into the future developments of Dynamics AX.

Check out he ZDNet post here: ZDNet Post

You can start developing now for such usage in your applications and possible needs for working with Dynamics AX data offline and sync back up. There are all kind of possibilities with the offering, and it's not just for Windows Mobile Applications, either! :-)
