A Sunrise over Convergence 2013

Well it's a fine sunny, near spring day where I am. The birds and trees are starting to awaken, beckoning on the warmth as our world for the northern hemisphere tilts towards our solar system's star. This also is the time of year in which a lot of us within the Dynamics Solar system collide with one another at the annual Microsoft Dynamics Convergence Conference. This year it's being held in beautiful New Orleans!

While there will be plenty of chances for bonified beignets & beads - the real focus and value is around the connections and networking that is gained from attending this grand event. Thus beings another annual tradition of mine, an interview with President & Owner of Sunrise Technologies, John Pence.

Like all traditions, things are meant to adapt, change, and grow giving new life to new projects. This tradition is no different, and so for the first time this interview was captured on our company blog .: Implementing Great Ideas (Sunrise Technologies Company Blog).

To read the full interview, please make use of the following resource.: Brandon George Interviews Sunrise Technologies President, John Pence, about the Upcoming Microsoft Convergence Event.

There are some great nuggets of information contained within this interview, looking at this event from one of the leading VARs and from its President & Owners perspective. For example, I asked John to share about what he is looking forward to attending from a session point of view. John list a few great one's, but then finally states.: "The most important session is of course 'general networking' which I will be doing all day, every day. That is really the best reason to attend Convergence"

Some further tidbits of information are around Sunrise's efforts in hosting live demo's of the retail functionality that now comes as part of Dynamics AX 2012 R2. Further what is near and dear to my heart, John's take on what to look for around Business Intelligence.

It's a great read, and I hope it get you into the mood and ready to Geaux Dynamics Style at Convergence 2013. Make sure to stay tuned and follow my tweets and blog post. This year enlist the MVP's that are attending in a more formal way for coverage of the event. So there will be more than you can handle in one day. If your attending great, if not - you should be able to keep up and stay excited still.

Well that's all for this post, I hope each and every one of you have a blessed Dynamics filled day! Til Next Time!

Spotlight: AX 2012 POS Development - Application Triggers

Well I hope everyone has had a great weekend and your looking forward to another Dynamics AX filled week. There is so much to cover about this powerful release of Microsoft Dynamics AX, with AX 2012. I'm really looking forward to our continued path down creating a BI story with AX 2012. Further, I'm equally as excited to have started the EP focused development post. There we will be targeting a warranty management solution, built 100% for EP.

With that said, and going back to the fact that we have so many wonderful topics to touch on with AX 2012 - I wanted to do a blog spotlight. It's been a little while since I have done such a post, and I wanted to take the time and highlight what Eduardo Arias, of AXWonders.blogspot.com recently posted about.

Ed, post recently on a great topic, being that of POS Development for AX 2012. From the post.:
"Application Triggers are called before and after certain operations when the Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 POS application is running. This is the first assembly that AX 2012 POS looks at when starting.

In addition, you can override the default Application Triggers’ operations by using the IApplicationTrigger interface provided by the Microsoft.Dynamics.Retail.Pos.Contracts.Triggers namespace in Visual Studio 2010."

Ed takes us through, in his first on a series about Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 POS Development, and dives into the topic of Application Triggers. In this Ed takes us the design, interfaces & steps - so that we can gain a very solid knowledge base around AX 2012 POS and Application Triggers.

Further, as we read along we are giving insight into the process, where to find examples, as well as a look to the next in this series of post. That being a focus around the topic of Blank Operations for AX 2012 POS Development. All-in-all it was a great start to a very interesting subject. I think it's a very timely entry into the blogsphere, and as Ed points out - there is not a lot of coverage for this topic yet. With that, many thanks Ed for adding to the community, and please keep it coming!

Till Next Time!

AX For Retail - More news!

Well as I mentioned in the previous post today,:
LS Retail’s Industry Solution for Microsoft Dynamics AX Acquired by Microsoft

"This 'AX For Retail' module is a step in the right direction, and from what I understand there might be more news in the area soon from a Microsoft point of view."

The news came a lot sooner than I thought it would. That is To-Increase just did a PR release, talking about how Microsoft has acquired their 'Retail Chain Manager solution'.

From the PR.:
"“Microsoft is investing in building industry functionality into its ERP product Dynamics AX and retail is a major focus for us,” says Crispin Read, general manager, Microsoft Dynamics ERP. "To-Increase is a proven ISV who will continue to deliver solutions that enhance the Microsoft Dynamics ERP platform and deliver value to customers.”

The agreement signed between Microsoft and To-Increase formalizes a strategic relationship between the Microsoft Dynamics Team and To-Increase. To-Increase will assist Microsoft in the migration of Retail Chain Manager to the next release of the Microsoft Dynamics AX retail solution. That end-to-end retail solution will include a Microsoft-based POS offering.

The agreement consists of a joint commitment from To-Increase and Microsoft to strengthen their solutions offerings to retail customers. Working under the Microsoft Certified for Dynamics program, To-Increase will focus on developing functionality specific to sub-verticals for the Microsoft Dynamics Retail solution."

The full Press Release can be found here.: TI: Microsoft acquires the To-Increase Retail Chain Manager solution

So then even more so completes this vision and drive for the 'AX For Retail' picture that is now really filling in for Dynamics AX 2011 and beyond.

Microsoft is getting really serious about it's retail offerings for current Dynamics AX Customer and future ones.

More soon on this, as to the details, what this means, how the technologies will be combined, etc. Exciting news! Check back soon!

LS Retail’s Industry Solution for Microsoft Dynamics AX Acquired by Microsoft

Well, Microsoft has made a new move focusing on the retial needs for Dynamics AX current and future customers.

In a PR release today, LS Retail reports that Microsoft is buying it's "Retail Industry Solution for Microsoft Dynamics AX".

From the PR.:
"LS Retail today announced LS Retail’s Industry solution for Microsoft Dynamics AX has been acquired by Microsoft in a move that underlines Microsoft’s continued investment in the retail industry. The agreement brings LS Retail’s proven end to end retail solution into the Microsoft Dynamics AX portfolio.

In acquiring LS Retail’s Microsoft Dynamics AX products, Microsoft Dynamics continues its strategic drive to provide global retail customers with a comprehensive and cost effective, end-to-end retail solution for the market today. It further accelerates Microsoft Dynamics’ goal to provide standard retail functionality as part of the Microsoft Dynamics AX core industry solution and unleashes the extensive Microsoft Dynamics retail partner ecosystem in providing vertical and sub-vertical specific functionality efficiently across all retail opportunities."

"“Microsoft is investing in building industry functionality into its ERP product Microsoft Dynamics AX and retail is a major focus for us,” says Crispin Read, general manager, Microsoft Dynamics ERP. "Acquiring a proven solution like LS Retail AX is a strategic move that enables Microsoft to drive further innovation with partners and customers.”"

So this is some exciting news, as the Road map fills out a little more for retail focused needs in Dynamics AX 2011 (6.0) and beyond. I am interested to see how this fits and makes use of the Dynamics POS system.

This AX For Retail module is a step in the right direction, and from what I understand there might be more news in the area soon from a Microsoft point of view.

More soon as I have more details... Check back soon!
