Silverlight works so well... that people are fired because of it?

So this is just to much to not post on. I post about silverlight, or have, in talking about how it can be used with Dynamics AX. Basically it's Microsoft Flash killer. You can use it to create RIA, or Rich Interactive Applications with.

Will NetFlix uses it, and because their software they developed with Silverlight works so well, they are getting rid of 50 technical jobs. Can you believe that?

Check out the article: ZDNet: The steep price of good technology

Chalk one up for Silverlight... and check back soon!

Silverlight 2.0 + Dynamics AX 5.0

With the soon to be release of Silverlight 2.0, and next years release of Dynamics AX 5.0, along with Visual Studio 2008 and DotNet 3.0 / 3.5 (ie: WinFX) the combining of these technologies, will mean that you will be able to develop Rich Interactive Applications, from Visual Studio, via C# Silverlight project, for Dynamics AX use.

If you could, take a step forward, and see the using for Enterprise Portal web parts. Dashboards, Web based sales orders, RIA eCommerce for those companies that need it, feeding into a DAX 5.0 backend, directly and without thirdparty packages.
Also moving to a more 'Web user' license model, which is much cheaper, than a standard fat client for DAX. Mix this with the possibilites that can now exist with the Microsoft Office Client for Dynamics AX, and you have business mashups worthy of
being called your own, useful, manageable, and actually do something other than look pretty on the screen.

To find out more about SilverLight, visit the Microsoft site at: Silverlight site

If you not thinking in these terms, then you should really start to do so. The result of such mashups, means more flexbility, in a controlled way, all for less!

Hello 'tafiti'

Alright, not exactly Dynamics AX related, and I am not the first to post about it. But here is www.tafiti.com. It is a search portal that uses Microsoft SilverLight and Live search. And man, what a UI. It's fast, friendly, well thought out, and really gives you a great look into searching.

Truly something I will start using more and more. With that said, what I would like to point out is you can see how a SilverLight UI can be used... now picture this with Dynamics AX data and business logic running on EP?! :-) Part of the future possibilites!

Grounder or PopFly?

Microsoft continues to display the move towards Web 2.0 / Enterprise 2.0 with the Alpha release of PopFly. PopFly was built with SilverLight [Formely WPF/e] and is designed for quickly creating web mashups. This is Very important to understand, because what this means is we could soon offer the ability of non-programming user access and means to create web parts for their mashups on the fly, and have it working with say PO's or Sales Orders? Actually if you think about this, it could be veru useful for executive types to place and create executive dashboards that feed from Dynamics AX, Score card manager, excel, etc. etc.

Check out the links:

ZDNet PopFly Post
ZDnet PopFly Content

This furthermore pushes us into looking at the UI as part of one of the Big pushes for Web / Enterprise 2.0. That is the point with this, taking and allowing user generated or controlled content, and how it is worked with, displayed in the enterprise.

Anyway just something else to watch out for. This was created with SilverLight [Formely Known as WPF/e]

More on Enterprise 2.0 and ERP

Well,

Since last October I have been rambling on about Enterprise 2.0, RIA, and how this will change teh face, and operation of ERP, in specific, Dynamics AX. Well I thought I would post a link to a recent ZDnet Blog post about this exact thing.

Enterprice Applications: Pay attention to the User Interface

So if you read this, it's exactly what I have been talking about. How the user interface will be a big change, working via RIA from SharePoint [Meaning Silverlight or Flash web parts] interacting with Office platform further, like Excel web parts, etc. etc. This is a great post, talkikng about how the User Interface will change, and given users the ability to get their job done in less application interfaces. I mean that's the point of this, bringing it all together, for a give role, for the most single point of user interface mashups as that can possibly exist for the information worker.

So let's keep pushing this, and keeping learning, designing and deploying technologies like SharePoint, Office 2007 and beyond, Silverlight, Web Services, OLAP, etc. etc.

Microsoft Silverlight

Alright,

Quick blog entry this morning. After hearing about WPF/e, now called SilverLight, I had to check it out for myself, inside and out. I have both flash and silverlight now on my machine and I will compare.

Here is the link:

Microsoft Silverlight

One might ask why this matters for Dynamics AX and Dynamics CRM? Well this part of the future user interface for Dynamics AX and CRM. This is part of the Web / Enterprise 2.0. This gives a user RIA, or Rich Interactive Application experince over the web.

So this is a Very important peice for someone who implements Dynamics AX / CRM. Hence I suggest more people from our area start to consider this and look at this deeper. I will post about what I find, and even and example of this being used to access and make use of Dynamics AX data now!
