Merry (late) Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Well I am sure that most of you took some vacation, as did I last week. I realized I did not post a Merry Christmas entry, so here is a Late Merry Christmas! :-) Better late than never right?

Also I hope that it was a blessed Christmas for each of you, and that 2011 is the best year yet!

I have a good bit in store and a lot to do coming up. With a year end closing post, reflecting on a recent blog post on Dynamics and the cloud. Will hope close the year on a topic that we started it, 2010 being called the Year of the Cloud!

I also have some guest blog post coming soon, as well as coverage of the Microsoft Dynamics AX 2011 - Technical Conference. This is being hosted at the campus in Redmond. A LOT of great tracks!

So here to closing out 2010 with a bang, and welcoming the new year of 2011!

MSDW: Article on Self Service BI and Dynamics

Well as promised, I have a new article I wrote for MSDynamicsWorld.com, which can be found here.: Self Service BI - Where the Rubber Met the Road in 2010 for Microsoft Dynamics

In this article, I try to cover how we have arrived at where we are today, why it's important, a high level of technology involved, and a real aassement and hopefully push for the concept of self service BI.

I try to capture the Vision Microsoft has with self service BI, that goes beyond Dynamics itself. And the fact that Microsoft Dynamics AX, and those companies that invest in it, can make use of this vision.

I hope you enjoy it, and many thanks to Jason and the MSDynamicsWorld.com team for allowing me to write for them.

Check back soon as more to come!

Blog spotlight: Dilip's AX & Exchange Web Services

Recently, Dilip, a fellow blogger over at: Dilip's blog on DYNAMICS AX, wrote on the topic of integration Microsoft Dynamics AX with Exchange Web Services.

The article can be read here.: How to Read email and download attachment from AX (AOS) without Installing Outlook Client and using EWS Exchange Web Services

In this post Dilip describes how a company could interact with Email at the AOS level, including attachments, etc. and not have to worry about having any client side context integration via outlook, or through SMTP.

This is a great post, and I would like to thank Dilip for sharing. I really like this integration, as it shows how powerful service based integrations with Microsoft Dynamics AX can be.

This also shows a new way of integrating with email based processes and workflows, that a lot of companies have request to do at times.

Thanks Dilip, and keep posting that good stuff!

That's all for now, hope everyone is staying warm and toasty.. its getting down to 15 here tonight. For some that's no big deal, but I live in the Southeast part of the U.S., and for us... well it's VERY COLD! So can you Notherners please turn off the cold air for us?

Check back soon as more post coming this week, including an article for MSDynamicsWorld.com!

A new Dynamics AX BI focused blog!

There is a new blog from Microsoft, focusing specifically on Dynamics AX BI. The blog can be found here.: Dynamics AX Business Intelligence

This is perfect timing as I have an article coming out soon, that will be focusing on BI.

This blog is off to a really good start, showing off some great screen cast, like the following.:

ScreenCast 4: AX SSRS Reporting Concepts
URL: ScreenCast - AX SSRS Reporting Concepts on YouTube

•Report Libraries
•Report Models
•Report Designs
•DataSets
•Designs
•AutoDesign & Precision Designs
•Designs versus RDL

There is a total of 16 ScreenCast now, since they started the AX BI blog.

I can't wait to see what all is wrote on this very focused blog. I have wrote over the year, on and off about BI with AX. I am sure I will be highlighting this blog again very soon!

Thanks Microsoft, this is a much needed voice in blogsphere!

A new Case study for Dynamics AX & a Virtual Lunch'n Learn

I wanted to post about two things this morning. First, I wanted to highlight a new case study done about Patagonia, by Microsoft. Patagonia is one of our, Sunrise's, clients in which we deployed Microsoft Dynamics AX 2009 to.

They are a great bunch of people, and the team we had out there did an amazing job! Really great job! Check out the full case study, which you can find here.: Patagonia - Outdoor Apparel Leader Gains Scalability and Visibility, Cuts Costs with ERP Solution

Its a truly amazing case study, and shows how Microsoft Dynamics AX was used to help increase their overall business, and also how Dynamics AX was used as the system of record, for Master Data Management. (MDM)

From the case study.:
"[W]e can now perform long-term, strategic business planning. At all levels of the organization, people are aware of the operational context and can take action that benefits the company as a whole …." - Rose Marcario, Chief Financial Officer and Chief Operations Officer, Patagonia

Congrats to Patagonia, and the team made up from both Sunrise and Patagonia that made this a great Dynamics AX success story!

Next, I wanted to point out a very cool thing that you can sign up for. That is, a Sunrise sponsored Lunch 'n Learn event. This time however it's Virtual!

Details.:

More on App-V

So recently, I posted about the fact that Microsoft Dynamics AX, Rich Client, has been certified to work with Microsoft App-V. You can read that post here.: Microsoft App-V and...

With this, we have a lot of new possibilities with deployment options in locations that are local or geographically seperated.

Before we had only RDP for non-local users that need to make use of the Microsoft Dynamics AX Rich Client. Now with App-V there is a new option!

Well with this, and being this is mostly a technically focused blog, it would make sense that we spend time and look to those that have done general Applications through App-V. And look to these examples to see what has worked, what is needed, what kind of gotchas exist, etc. etc.

So with that, I am doing a blog spotlight. That is, The Lazy Admin. He has a post, that goes into great detail about App-V, and real world information. A direct link to that post can be found here.: App-V Real World Experience

This is a great blog for one, but a great article on a topic most any company with an AX investment should be looking at and seeing if this is a technology that can be made use of for you and your company needs.

That's all for now... check back soon as more to come!
