This includes, but is not limited to architecture, design patterns, approach, workflow, BI, etc. This is an amazing event and if your working with AX either as a customer or partner, both types of organizations and all the variations that exist within each can benefit from attending.

For those of you who are looking to get a great understanding around the technical aspects of Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 R2 then this is the conference to attend. I myself will not be able to attend, but would highly recommend this event from my past experience attending it in the past.

VSLive - Las Vegas Baby!

Well I hope everyone has had a very productive week, and is ready for a nice weekend. Keep in mind we Spring Forward this weekend. Personally I love it, because it means more hours of Sun, and might be able to actually enjoy the outdoors a bit.

To help wrap up this week, I wanted to post about a series of events that is going on, specifically related to Microsoft Visual Studio and .Net technologies. As you can see from the above graphic, I'm speaking about the Visual Studio Live! Conferences that are held. This year, there are four such events, with some really great tracks. The first event, is being held in Las Vegas Baby!



You can click on the above graphic, and sign up, the event is coming up soon but really has some awesome tracks, and exposure to things like.: Cloud Computing, Windows Phone App Development and Windows8/WinRT tracks.



Such events, are more than ever, very helpful in getting the most value out of your Microsoft Dynamics AX investment. More and more solutions, or total solutions for customers, embrace and make use, including extending value, with the technologies, tools and software that are covered at VSLive events. As Microsoft continues to invest with Microsoft Dynamics AX, via the rest of the product stack, the value of such conferences will only increase as time goes on.

There are already some great post in the Microsoft Dynamics Community that showcase the use of such technologies, like extending AX via a Windows Phone Solution. As well as, showcasing the value of Visual Studio LightSwitch for Dynamics AX.

AXUG Summit 2011 - Here we come Vegas!

With the release of Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012, there is so much to take in, understand and learn. Because of this fact, more than ever, events like AXUG Summit 2011 are critical to connecting and learning about the new release. There is a lot of great sessions planned around summit this year. A host of partners, and a lot of Microsoft driven, as well as customer driven sessions will exists for your enjoyement and learning.

This years event has totally sold out, and we be a record year for attendance. This is the first time that this event has sold out, and this I believe speaks volumes to the interest level in Microsoft Dynamics AX, as well as the value people place on the AXUG Summit event.

I'm really looking forward to this great event, and by far I believe it's the most important event of the year when it comes to conferences related to Microsoft Dynamics AX. This is where a lot of connections, knowledge, and bottom line value can be gained.

If you missed out, make sure to check out the early bird specials for next years summit. It's well worth the low cost, and the return on investment from doing so is just amazing. There is no other single event, that you can gain so much real world applicable knowledge, and why I suggest to every existing, or just newly signed AX customer become an active member of AXUG. As well, I also highly recommend each customer send someone, or a few someone's, to attend the Summit Conference every year.

DAXCONF 2011 - A look towards tomorrow

Well after a long flight, on a older 737 (yes 737 from East to West Coast... most unpleasant), I arrived late at the #DAXCONF last night.

Its tough going from East Coast to West Coast. I can bet, that those European Peers of mine, have it a lot tougher though!

It's finally here though, the week in which the Dynamics Ecosystem can consume and talk more opennly in a public fashion about the next release of Microsoft's flagship ERP package called Microsoft Dynamics AX.

Today is actually a very light schedule, with registration around lunch time, and then a meet and greet later this evening. It's kinda of like the 'deep breath' or quite before the storm of information that will lash about starting tomorrow.

Kicking off tomorrow, is the keynote, in which Kees Hertogh gave us some things to look for, during my interview with his last week.: Official Details about Dynamics AX '6' released, including comments from Microsofts Kees Hertogh.

It should be a great keynote actually, as Hal Howard, Corporate Vice President of Microsoft Dynamics, and Crispin Read, General Manager, Dynamics ERP "Highlights the generational shift in technology that Dynamics AX ‘6’ represents"

I think the use of the phrase 'generational shift in technology' will end up being a good way to summarize all the great new improvements, and product stack investments that AX '6' will have and make use of.

From the keynote the day is packed, like every other day will be through Friday, having deeper dives into all the improvements, both technical and functional, that will be apart of the Dynamics AX '6' Official release to the public.

Microsoft Dynamics AX 2011 Technical Conference Next Week!

Well, we are finally at the point to where Microsoft Dynamics AX '6' information will be flowing like crazy soon. A lot of information, deep dives, talk & chalk, Q&A will be taking place next week at Redmond.

I am talking about the Microsoft Dynamics AX 2011 Technical Conference. Kees Hertogh, which I interviewed here: Official Details about Dynamics AX '6' released, including comments from Microsofts Kees Hertogh this past Monday, just posted recently a nice resource for the session content, travel, etc. You can find his post here.: Preparing for the Dynamics AX Technical Conference next week…

This has been a real build up, and a lot of people are ready to get their collective hands on AX '6' and all that it brings. We have had some previews of what to expect, and it should be a great event.

AXUG Summit next week!

The AXUG Summit 2010 is next week! This year it in wonderful Olrando, FL, at Seaworld. Of course, not a lot of time to check the sites, and shows there, and so many great sessions, training, customer events, etc. will be taking place.

With that, I asked a few of those that will be presenting at the AXUG summit to share a little about themselves, their sessions, and their thoughts on the AXUG summit and it's value.

First up we have John H. Smith, Software Engineer for Smith Technologies. Here is a little bio about John.:

"John H. Smith is a resident of Indiana holding a professional engineer license and proprietor of Smith Technologies. For the past 8 years, he has specialized in software engineering for Dynamics AX."

And the following are John's sessions while at AXUG Summit this year.:

• “AX Code Change Control Roundtable” in the development track, DEV04, double session, 10/20/10 8:00 am to 9:00 am and 10/20/10 9:30 am to 10:30 am. - "[John will] be leading this development track discussion on code management. We’ll be exploring what practices users are following when changing their code. Come prepared to pickup a few tidbits that you can make your own, or to offer up a few gems of your own. This session is not a presentation but an interactive exchange of ideas."


• “The AOT and AX – Understanding how the three letter word can help you out” in the development track, DEV03, 10/19/10 5:00pm to 6:00pm. - "[John will] be leading this development track round table diving into the application object tree and its relationship to AX development. As the backbone of AX development, it’s vitally import to understate the AOT. We’ll be sharing experiences working with the AOT. This session is not a presentation but an interactive exchange of ideas."

Now moving forward, I have another person that will be presenting at AXUG Summit this year, who name is Kris Pavlovsky. Here is a little information about Kris:

Some of the topics we plan to cover include: Managing Environments – Everything from the AOT to the AOD and in between is fair game. Managing Development – How make successful changes to the AX application. This session is geared for moderate to advanced technical individuals" Session Link


• Role Center Setup and Administration (HT) 10/20/2010 9:30am – 10:30am - " Role Centers are new feature of AX 2009 and provide the unique opportunity to push otherwise static data forward and enable your end users to be more productive. Out of the box Role Centers provide a lot of easy to use functionality which will be demonstrated. This session promises to cater to all areas of interest in Dynamics AX." Session Link


• Best Practices for Role Centers and Dynamics AX2009 (RT) 10/20/2010 8:00am – 9:00am - " If you have ever gone to personalize a Role Center and asked yourself, “What’s a Web Part anyway?” This is your session. • AX Infrastructure Best Practices in an Enterprise Installation (RT) 10/21/2010 4:00pm – 5:00pm - "This session is a must for anyone tasked with maintaining a growing AX implementation. Every year the AXUG member base gains more knowledge on how to build, deploy and maintain large AX implementations whether local or over the WAN. This will be technically driven discussion." • Understanding the Global Address Book (GAB) in AX2009 (PR/RT) 10/20/2010 2:00pm – 3:00pm - " GAB is another new feature introduced with AX 2009 allowing companies to share various types records across multiple Dynamics AX companies. This session will provide a lot of great information on how to implement and maintain GAB’s within Dynamics AX. This session will provide content for both technical and non-technical alike." And here is what Kris, has to say about the AXUG Summit.:

Looks like both John and Kris are going to be busy, and covering / leading some great sessions! I hope to get the chance to visit as least one of them.

In this presentation session, geared towards the technical folks, learn what technical tools are available and how they can be deployed with AX to extend your Dynamics AX installation into the cloud."


• Sunrise Partner Showcase - AX on the iPad - " Innovative ways to extend your AX investment with the iOS platform."

All in all, this is going to be a great summit! If you still have not registered, there is still time. This is the yearly event I always recommend customers to attend. With so much knowledge focused around existing customers and install base of AX your surely to walk away with how to improve, extend and get the most out of your Dynamics AX investment.

This is also a great event for those just starting, or thinking to start down the road of a Dynamics AX ERP investment. Plenty of ways to connect and learn!
